Pak China Joint Agriculture Laboratory should be established under CPEC: PCJCCI President

Moazzam Ghurki, President of Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), said during a meeting held at PCJCCI Secretariat on Monday that under the framework of CPEC, a joint agriculture laboratory should be established to help make ware and improve the agriculture sector by technology transfer for the increase of cultivation and production. He added that the project would help farmers by lowering the need to invest in insecticides and pesticides and would help alleviate poverty in Pakistan.

Fang Yulong, Senior Vice President of PCJCCI, said technology transfer is extremely important, so this Pak China agriculture laboratory will help exchange contemporary and innovative techniques. We will also launch various awareness courses for the farmers to boost cultivation and production. He added that Wheat is Pakistan’s largest food crop, and continuous increase in wheat yield has become a strategic objective to ensure food security in Pakistan. China’s success story in using molecular breeding technology to breed high-yielding, disease-resistant and high-quality wheat varieties will be very useful for Pakistan to increase wheat production.

Hamza Khalid, Vice President PCJCCI, said there is a dire need to introduce smart agriculture in Pakistan because this would help in awareness and educate the farmers about the modern ways and technologies of the world. He added that we are still stuck to the old farming traditions, which are no longer cost-effective and reliable. Through Pak China Joint Agriculture Laboratory, we should inculcate smart agriculture technology among the farmers and connect them with e-commerce platforms through which they can access contemporary agriculture machinery at reasonable and nominal rates.

Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General PCJCCI, added that with the country’s current massive internet penetration rate, which is highly likely to grow further in the years ahead, we should connect the entire agricultural chain of Pakistan with e-commerce from production to marketing. This digital transformation should be the prime motive of Pak China Agriculture Laboratory because it will help reduce agrarian production costs, upgrade efficiency and create new job opportunities for local communities in the rural areas of Pakistan.
