Medical Universities in Pakistan

1. Aga Khan University, Karachi

Known as AKU, it is the top medical university in Pakistan. It was established by Prince Aga Khan in 1983. The main campus is present in Karachi and also has other campuses in other countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, United Kingdom, and Afghanistan.

It is accredited by PMDC as well and conducts its own entry test which is separate from any medical university entry test. It is also ranked as 185th in best Asian medical universities. It is also ranked as 1st by HEC in top medical universities of Pakistan.

2. University of Health Sciences, Lahore

Known as UHS Lahore, it was established in 2002 and the Governor of Punjab is the chancellor of this university. This university conducts the UHS MDCAT test for the students applying for admission in medical universities.

It is considered in the top most universities in the field of medical science. It is also affiliated with Higher Education Commission known as HEC, PMDC and Pharmacy council of Pakistan. It is also ranked as 2nd by HEC in top medical universities of Pakistan.

3. Dow University of Health Sciences, Karachi

It is one of the oldest and best medical universities in Pakistan and was established in 1945 by Sir Hugh Dow before the formation of Pakistan. The university comprises of two leading health sciences undergraduate research institutes: Dow International Medical College and Dow Medical College.

4. Isra University, Hyderabad

It is a non-profit organization owned by Isra Islamic Foundation and certified by the Pakistan Centre for Philanthropy. The university offers programs in Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, Engineering Science, Technology, Dentistry and Allied Sciences and many others. Accredited by PMDC as all medical universities and as per the latest HEC rankings, Isra university is ranked as the 4th best medical university in Pakistan.

5. Zia-ud-Din University, Karachi

It is a private university founded in 1995 by Ziauddin Group. The university is named after the educationist, Ziauddin Ahmad [professor and member of Aligarh movement]. The university also offers a variety of courses in both undergraduate and post-graduate programs. It is accredited by PMDC and is recognized by HEC.

As per new HEC ranking Zia-ud-Din University is ranked as the 5th best university in Pakistan which is equivalent to Khyber Medical University because there total scores are equal.

6. Khyber Medical UniversityPeshawar

KMU as it is commonly known is regarded as one of the best medical universities in Pakistan and is a public research university established in 2007. This university comprises several constituent colleges and institutes like KMU Institute of Basic Medical Sciences and KMU Institute of Dental Sciences, Kohat etc.

Khyber Medical University is accredited by PMDC and is ranked as the 5th best medical university in Pakistan as per HEC rankings with an equivalent score as Zia-ud-Din University.

7. King Edward Medical College, Lahore

King Edward Medical University is one of the oldest and best medical universities in Pakistan. It was formed in 1860 and named after King Edward VII. It is located in Anarkali Bazaar Lahore.

The university offers MBBS/BDS programs and many others and is affiliated with the famous Mayo Hospital as well as many others such as Lady Willingdon Hospital. It is affiliated with UHS and PMDC as well. It is ranked as 7th best medical university in HEC rankings.

8. Baqai Medical University, Karachi

A private university that was founded in 1989. It is located on the super Highway, Gadap suburb of Karachi, Sindh. The university offers courses in medicine, dentistry, health management sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, and veterinary science.

It is accredited by PMDC and is ranked 8th among the best medical universities of Pakistan by HEC.

9. Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences

LUMHS as it is known is one of the oldest universities of Pakistan and was established in 1881. It is located in Jamshoro, Sindh and was raised to the status of a medical college in 1942 and is accredited by PMDC as all medical universities.

As per new HEC rankings, this university is ranked as the 9th best medical university in Pakistan.

10. Gandhara University, Peshawar

Although not as old as previous universities but still considered in the best medical universities, Gandhara university was initially founded in 1995 by surgeon Muhammad Kabir. This university is also recognized by HEC and accredited by PMDC as well.

As per new HEC rankings, this university is ranked as the 10th best medical university in Pakistan.
